Effect evaluation of acupuncture combined with neural stem cells in the treatment of cerebral palsy rats

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the therapeutic effect of acupuncture combined with neural stem cell (NSC) on cerebral palsy rats and to explore its possible mechanism. Methods: 40 SD rats, randomly selected 8 as normal control group; successful cerebral palsy model were randomly divided into the following 4 groups: model group, simple acupuncture group, simple NSC group, acupuncture NSC group, 8 in each group. The treatment was started on the 3rd day after the successful model was made. The acupuncture treatment sites were Baiwei, Temporal I, Quchi, Neiguan, Zusanli and Yongquan points. NSC treatment was treated with NSC obtained from hippocampal tissue isolation and culture of neonatal SD rats and injected into the tail vein. After 3 weeks of treatment, behavior and apoptosis were detected to evaluate the efficacy, and finally the brain tissue was taken for HE staining to evaluate the efficacy again. Results: In the three behavioral tests of suspension test, slope test and Y maze test, and the detection of brain nerve cell apoptosis, the combined treatment group had obvious curative effect compared with the simple acupuncture group and the simple NSC group, and the differences between the two evaluation methods were statistically significant (P<0.05);HE staining also found that the number of normal nerve cells in the hippocampus of the combined treatment group was significantly higher. Conclusion: Compared with simple acupuncture group and simple NSC group, acupuncture combined with NSC group can better improve the learning and memory ability of cerebral palsy rats, better improve their limb function, and have a better effect on maintaining the number of brain nerve cells and inhibiting apoptosis.
