Abstract:
since June 1989, we have applied human fetal thymosin (THN) and nerve growth trap (NGF) in the treatment of mumps complicated with meningoencephalitis in 5 cases, with remarkable curative effect, which is reported as follows. Materials and Methods There were 3 males and 2 females in 5 patients with an average age of 6.5 years (range, 3-10 years). In addition to high fever and parotid gland enlargement, the manifestations of meningoencephalitis were: coma in 1 case, lethargy in 4 cases, headache and vomiting in 5 cases, meningeal irritation in 4 cases, mild hemiplegia in 2 cases, and diffuse abnormal EEG in 5 cases. Three cases were examined for cerebrospinal fluid, including 2 cases of elevated pressure, 3 cases of increased white blood cells, and 1 case of increased protein. 2 cases of head CT scan were normal.
