Effect of acupuncture and nerve growth factor on physical recovery of cerebral palsy rats

Abstract:Objective: To observe the effects of acupuncture and nerve growth factor on the overall function of cerebral palsy young rats by body weight, slope test, suspension test and Y-maze test. Methods: The model of cerebral palsy in young rats was prepared by the method of ischemia and hypoxia (HIBD), and the young rats were weighed 7 days after birth, divided into experimental groups and modeled. The experiment was divided into five groups: ① normal group, ② sham operation group, ③ model group, ④ simple acupuncture group, ⑤ acupuncture NGF group. The slope test and suspension test were detected at 2d, 9d and 16d after operation respectively. The Y maze was trained at 16d after operation, the Y maze was detected at 17d after operation, and the materials were weighed and collected at 18d after operation. Results: Compared with the model group, acupuncture and NGF had a significant promotion effect on the weight gain of HIBD rats, making the weight gain speed and amplitude comparable to that of normal rats. Acupuncture had a significant promotion effect on the recovery of muscle strength and balance ability of HIBD rats, while NGF had a better effect and a stronger promotion effect (P<0.01), acupuncture had a promoting effect on HIBD rats (P<0.01), and the effect was better after adding NGF. Conclusion: Compared with the model group, no matter in weight, muscle strength, balance ability or intelligence and memory recovery, acupuncture has obvious therapeutic effect on HIBD young rats, and the effect is better after adding NGF. The experimental results show that NGF has a certain synergy and promotion effect on acupuncture treatment of cerebral palsy.
